Skirting The Issue
Fur skirts made an appearance from some of London's more directional designers, who played with goat hair, full fox and Mongolian lamb to create a sense of volume and drama played out with vintage inspirations that crossed from Victoriana to the Jazz Age.

The Sweater Girls
Fur and knitwear go hand in hand for next winter as designers in London opted for knitted fur sweaters or incorporated fur into classic knit structures like cables and traditional Arans. Most notable here was Pringle who reworked classic Fair Isle patterns in mink, while Burberry created dramatic fur and cable sleeves on a form-fitting sweater and at Braganza it was all about the fur top becoming the season's new crew-neck.

Calfskin
One of the strongest trends on the London runways was for calfskin with silky gleaming textures adding an almost luminescent quality to outerwear and even dresses. Colours reflected the key emerging colour trend for next winter, namely rich cognac browns and grenadine reds with ultimately simple styling making this a key look for the contemporary market.

A Curly Tale
London designers opted for the soft touch and comfort factor of cosy textures with everything from curly lamb to Toscana and shearling. This was a look that worked for everything from simple belted gilets to shrug-on oversized jackets and coats with exaggerated collars and casual boxy shapes. It's a trend that's all about cocooning and casual luxe styling in a palette of winter neutrals, grey and rich grenadine red.

Rustic
Unstructured silhouettes and rugged fur textures brought a raw, almost primitively rustic feel into play, as designers worked goat hair, Mongolian lamb, raccoon with contrasting textured trims and Toscana lamb into uncomplicated shapes, even layering and piecing furs into cape-like formations for a throw-on protective feel. Shading or ombré was a key part of the look as seen at Matthew Williamson, while at Pringle contrasting fur mixes had an almost make-do-and-mend appeal.

Full Furs
Fox in all it's beautiful manifestations was one of the key furs in London with arctic fox, silver fox, and cross fox all being worked for full fur coats, jackets and gilets. Elsewhere, Burberry sent out full fur coats with contrasting piles, emphasising the luxury of a the look with narrow sheared bodies and full hemlines, while at Amanda Wakeley it was all about the easy full fur coat, throw-on and casually belted.
